My name is Milan Verleg. I’m a 22-year-old currently pursuing my Master’s in Sports Journalism and Communication at Universidad Europea Real Madrid. With this blog, I want to show the world what I’m learning and how I experience life in the capital of Spain. I’ll write about the many different sports matches I attend, just like a journalist would. Besides that, I’ll share the various activities I do to grow as a person and gain a better understanding of the world of journalism.
More about me
Since I was very young, I fell in love with football. I watched as many matches as possible, read all the news, and all my books were about this amazing sport. After finishing high school, my goal was clear: I wanted to become a sports journalist. I decided to study for a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Communication, from which I graduated in 2024. During my studies, I interned at two Dutch football magazines: Life After Football and ELF Voetbal. I interviewed players and wrote stories about them. I still work for ELF Voetbal as a freelancer.
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I decided to follow my second passion: travelling. I spent almost ten months exploring South and Central America. Beyond the breathtaking nature, incredible cities, and delicious food, I learned a lot about different cultures. People in these countries live completely different lives compared to us in Europe. I met many people along the way and grew a lot as a person. Of course, I also visited some of the most iconic football stadiums in the world, including watching Flamengo at the Estádio Maracanã and River Plate at the Estadio Monumental.

After my travels, I decided to return to university for one more year. I chose Madrid, the city where I had already lived for five months in 2022. I did my Erasmus exchange in this beautiful city, and if you’ve ever been to Madrid, you’ll understand why I came back. The Spanish lifestyle, the people, the sports opportunities: it’s one of the best cities in the world. I hope to become a better journalist this year, and I’m excited to share my journey with the world!
